I took the metal tracks that were made to attach to the IKEA drawer, and drilled some holes in flaps that normally support the underside of the drawer. I cut a piece of pine 64.2cm wide (required width – this is the same width as the drawer you are replacing), 28.5cm ‘deep’ (this measurement is flexible) and 2cm thick (this dimension is somewhat flexible). But instead of inserting the drawer into the drawer tracks, I attached the drawers’ tracks to a piece of pine 2cm thick, to act as the keyboard tray. So, I built the main part of the desk as per the instructions. The drawer hangs too low, so if you adjust your chair to the right height to keyboard, you hit your knees on the underside of the drawer. The desk lacks ‘depth’, meaning that if you put the keyboard in front of the monitor, the monitor is too close to your eyes.Ģ. The IKEA Micke desk was just right, but there were two problems people have complained about with using this desk for a desktop computer:ġ. I needed a cheap desk to fit in a small space.
